We are absolutely swooning over this genuine antique banded agate watch fob/seal that was converted at some point into a ring. The design, naturally made by various minerals over time, somewhat mimics a swirling, painterly Milky Way sky or landscape ala "Starry Night", and the soft coral/rose tones are on the more unique side for Victorian banded agates (most are more orange-to-brown). The trifurcated shoulders on the shank are (Victorian) period-appropriate and give the piece a solid, substantial appearance and weight. This is a very well done conversion piece, no sharp, jagged, or rough portions to the underside of the stone where the top of the fob was removed.
Title: Antique Victorian 10k gold and coral-rose banded agate fob ring
c. 1890
Size: 6
Tech desc: The bottom half of a Victorian era watch fob/seal, featuring an unbelievable coral-to-rose colored banded agate specimen, has been reimagined with an era-appropriate shank with trifurcated shoulders. Both the agate bezel rim and shank have tested as solid 10k gold.
Agate dimensions: 17mm H (N/S) x 12mm W (E/W)
Ring weight: 5.52g
Ring height: 20.20mm at longest (center front), 3.5mm at narrowest (center back)
Ring depth (max height atop the finger): 5mm
Hallmarks: None
Condition/Notes: 1. Very good overall condition with a patch of slight wear to the very outer rim of the stone in one spot -- imperceptible without magnification. 2. Head on, the textured bezel setting (framing the stone) shows some darkening and patina from age and its previous life as a watch fob -- please let us know if you would like this further cleaned and polished up prior to/at the time of placing your order, or if you would like it to remain natural, as-is.
As with all vintage and antique pieces, which are previously worn and loved, this piece's current condition is commensurate with age and wear throughout its life up until this point. Please review all item details and photos carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
As a general rule of thumb, it is best to wear and handle vintage and antique jewelry with care, i.e., do not shower or swim with them, wear them during physically laborious activities such as gardening, exercise, baking, chores, etc. We would also recommend you skip donning your favorite vintage and antique pieces if you'll be working with paint, bleach, chlorine, sulfur, or other potentially hazardous or abrasive chemicals or cleaners. This is not to say that every vintage and antique piece is too fragile to withstand normal daily wear, (they are not -- please don't be afraid to wear them!) but it is to remind you that each piece has traveled its own unique journey by the time it reaches us, and while we disclose their current condition, we cannot guarantee how much "mileage" any given piece has left before it might require a "tune up", so to speak.
