"Omnia Vanitas" (All is Vanity) Georgian Skull Signet Ring // Sterling Silver

Plucked from the King James Bible, the Latin "Vanitas vanitatum omnia vanitas" translates as "Vanity of vanities, all is vanity" -- the epitome of the Memento Mori sentiment.

The shorthand "Omnia Vanitas" on this custom Vulpecula Blazon signet, (cast from an original antique Georgian wax seal), suggests a message some may find morbid while others find it quite comforting -- that we must all consider our lives in relation to the inevitability of death. This is not to say we should fall helpless to the notion of futility, but instead this consideration gives us reason to recognize and cherish the loving, happy, truly important moments and try to take the painful times and frivolous things in stride -- a testament to the transient nature of life as we know it.

We like to think of it as a wearable reality check, perhaps offering clarity amidst the daily grind -- "Is this really worth getting upset over?", "Am I making the best use of my time?" or best yet -- "I can't believe how lucky I am to be enjoying this moment here and now!"

The signet face reflects the age-related (over 200 years!) quirks and unique character of the original Georgian gold and citrine wax seal this ring was cast from, it gives the ring a very special definition, texture and personality all its own.

This is by far the most significantly-bodied signet in the Vulpecula Blazon series, a true hefty heirloom. However, while it is more substantial, we have to say it's not overwhelming on the hand. While it is wider, it is not overly deep so it balances out and ends up "hugging" the finger nicely, even on smaller finger sizes. The inside/back of the signet face is solid, not hollowed out.
