Title: Vintage 10k gold "Ignem Veni Mittere" Sacred Heart signet ring

c. 1960

Size: 4.5

Description: A very interesting design, likely the coat of arms for a school or other religious institution bearing the Latin motto "Ignem Veni Mittere" or "I came to set/bring the fire" The full quote, alleged to have been spoken by Jesus, “Ignem veni mittere in terra(m), et quid volo nisi ut accendatur” is from Luke 12:49. This translates to “I have come to bring fire on earth, and all that I want is that it burns”. This is said to refer to the baptismal fire of the holy spirit...but I like to think this motto can have secular power behind it, too, in that whoever may wear this ring seeks to "set fire" to the world with their own unique perspective and positive energy. Two torches burn on either side of an evergreen tree and mountain, with the sacred heart of Jesus and the immaculate heart of Mary at the top. Very cool design.

Ring weight: 4.82g

Ring/band width (N/S): 12 mm at center front; 3 mm at center back

Ring depth (max height atop the finger): 2.15 mm

Hallmarks: "10K", an "S" with an arrow through it (maker's mark for Spies Bros., Chicago, IL -- makers of fine class rings from 1930s-1960s), and an inscription "M.E.L '60" likely initials of the person and their graduation year

Condition: Very good vintage condition, crisp detailing on the signet face; light wear and patina commensurate with age, can easily be polished up if buyer so chooses.
